The Camera Lab (Labo CAM) is responsible for calibrating and checking speed meters, such as radars, red light cameras and average speed cams.
This involves checking that the devices not only measure speed accurately, but also that they comply with strict Belgian and regional legal requirements. These checks are carried out both in our own specialised laboratory and on the road itself.
Labo CAM works mainly for the owners of the devices (police zones, cities and municipalities, and Regions) and the manufacturers of the devices.
Excessive speed is one of the causes of approximately 1 in 3 fatal accidents. Through Labo CAM, Vias can help ensure that speed limits are respected in more places.
The CAM laboratory is certified by BELAC ISO17020 (445-INSP) to carry out on-site checks and is accredited according to ISO17025 (445-TEST and 445-CAL) for the verification of speed meters and distance measurements.
Thanks to these accreditations, the laboratory can perform the following tasks:
- Verification of Doppler or loop speedometers
- Checking the proper functioning of a speed control system
- Verification of laser speedometers
- Verification of a curvometer
- Site inspection for Doppler speedometers
- Site inspection for a speed control camera
- Site inspection for a loop camera
- Measurement of the distance between two average speed cameras
